Church Schools
Church schools within the Diocese of Guildford are the responsibility of the Diocesan Board of Education. The Diocesan Director of Education and his team serve schools in Surrey, NE Hampshire and the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames.
All Church schools are part of the state maintained sector. There are two main types of schools.
Church Aided Schools are where the governing body and the diocese are the lead authorities supported by the LEA.
Church Controlled Schools, which are controlled by the LEA, the diocese and parish support the Christian Foundation of the school. All Church schools enjoy the partnership with diocese and LEA, supported by the worshipping community of the local parish.
Guildford Diocese is delighted to have been the originator of affiliated schools, now increasingly common in other dioceses. Affiliated schools are Community schools that enjoy a close relationship with diocese and parish, a link that has been confirmed by an informal agreement.
Through its traded services in Governance, Staff Development and Associate consultancy the diocese also engages with all state maintained and independent schools.
