People in need, in Surrey

Although Surrey and North East Hampshire are relatively wealthy areas, there are pockets of poverty and deprivation, both in some of the larger towns and in rural areas. There are people who are excluded, including ethnic minority groups, and others who are vulnerable or need support. Within out communities, people struggle with mental health problems, with caring for older people with dementia, with young people involved with drugs or crime. Despite Surrey's wealth, beneath the surface there are people in need.

The Bishop of Guildford's Foundation is an independent charity, set up in 1993 by the Bishop of Guildford; it aims to support faith-linked projects and groups that respond to local need and build stronger communities. Since it began, it has made grants to a wide range of projects. Those helped by grants include charities working with people with disabilities, family support projects, youth workers and children's workers, organisations developing employment for vulnerable people, community organisations and projects working with homeless people.
